Introduction
This article provides a walkthrough of the workflow for compliance with legislation and regulations focused on enhancing the privacy and security of sensitive health information. These measures are focused on enhancing the privacy and security of sensitive health information, particularly around reproductive health and gender-affirming care. These measures include limiting access to sensitive information, such as data related to abortion, contraception, and gender-affirming care, while segregating this information to ensure its protection.
While the feature was designed with AB 352 (California legislation focused on enhancing privacy and security around reproductive and gender-affirming care) in mind, it can also be used by any customer who wants to protect client data. This includes protecting information under other regulations, such as 42 CFR Part 2 for substance use records.
Prerequisites
Before you can use the Sensitivity Classification functionality in your system, ensure the following permissions are enabled under Security Settings:
Admin or Configuration Access
Your user role or account must have the following page permission enabled:
- Specific Security - Sensitivity Classification
End User Access
To select and view sensitive classifications within a client chart, your user role or account must have one or more of the following permissions enabled — depending on the type of information you need to access:
- Sensitive Classifications - Abortion Care
- Sensitive Classifications - Alcohol
- Sensitive Classifications - Child Abuse
- Sensitive Classifications - Contraceptive Care
- Sensitive Classifications - Gender Affirming Care
- Sensitive Classifications - General
- Sensitive Classifications - HIV/AIDS
- Sensitive Classifications - SUD
Where Sensitivity Classifications Appear
Once the appropriate permissions are enabled, users will be able to view and select Sensitivity Classifications on the following pages within a client chart:
Dynamic Notes
CM Notes
PCP Notes
Psych Notes
Group Notes
Nurse Progress Notes
Problem List
Allergies
Prescriptions
Instructions
Admin Instructions - Enabling and Configuring Sensitivity Classification
When enabling this feature, you can choose between two options:
- Single (Recommended)- Allows the user to select one sensitivity classification. The classification will appear as a checkbox on certain client data records.
- Multiple - Allows the user to select more than one sensitivity classification. Classifications will appear as a multi-select dropdown on certain data records, and behavior may vary based on the data type.
